PERSONAL PRESCRIPTION PAPER
For myself assessment I chose to do an online quiz and the quiz in the book. For the quiz online it showed that I needed lots of improvement towards my physical wellness and in the textbook, it showed that I needed improvement with my environmental health. Even though the book said I should work on my environmental wellness I believe that my physical wellness is a bit more important at the moment. Due to these results, I would have to say that I am not as healthy as I should be. I didn’t need a quiz to tell me because I already knew for myself, which is why I am working on myself a little every day. This year I was not as active as I should have been. I slacked a lot when it came to working out or just having time for myself. So, my mental, emotional, and physical state all went downhill. But after letting go of some people and getting a job I started to become busier. I have, however, been trying to work on myself every day, but I have just been really busy with work and school that I don’t even have time to focus on myself. My eating habits are terrible. Sometimes I eat three meals a day and other days I eat one meal a day. I am never consistent when it comes to the times I should be eating because I always come late from work or wake up very late. However, I have been trying to stop eating so late and when I crave a snack or something I drink water, which does help for a bit. I also have been trying to do more exercise and am looking to get a membership at a gym. I know if I start paying monthly for the gym I will be motivated to go. Another thing that has helped me stay a bit more active would be walking and carrying stuff around work a lot. I walk up and down the stairs, around the restaurant and sometimes on my thirty-minute break I go outside and walk around for a bit. I also carry lots of chairs, highchairs and push some heavy tables together. Even though it doesn’t seem like much, these little things have helped me a lot.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is very important because it helps you grow as a person and see yourself from another perspective. Also, because at the end of every struggle and workout you get to be proud of yourself. One of the reasons I enjoyed maintaining a healthy lifestyle were the before and after pictures I would have of myself. Seeing the difference in each picture made me realize that I can do anything if I really set my mind to it. I was so proud and happy when I started to lose weight during my high school years in basketball, but once covid happened, little by little I stopped working out and taking care of my body. When I look at my body from before and compare it to my body now, I get upset at myself because I worked really hard to lose weight. Those pictures of me losing weight are my motivation to start working out again and change my eating habits. Three goals I have that I think will help me improve my health lifestyle would be working out, not eating so late at night, and drinking a lot more water. Working out and doing exercise is very important to me because during high school I was very active. I would condition, play basketball, and weight lift six days a week. My only rest day was Sunday because it was family time. Not being able to push myself to be like this again really gets me upset and disappointed in myself because all my four years of hard work feels like it has been flushed down the drain. Being able to go back to my old lifestyle of working out will be very beneficial for me because not only will it help with my physical wellness, but it will also help me mentally. Of course, I will struggle with the workouts at first but that’s the point. Being able to push myself little by little everyday will make a huge difference in my life. Secondly, not eating so late at night is a huge one for me because every time I come home from work it is usually 10:30 pm, 11:30 pm, or 12:00 am and all I have available to eat is fast food. Which is not okay because fast food so late at night and then going straight to bed can mess up your body. I have to learn to eat earlier during work, so I am not so hungry when leaving. I will give myself a better diet and at first, I know it will be hard and cravings will come but I am up for the challenge. Lastly, drinking a lot more water or just drinking water in general will absolutely help me a lot. I have not been drinking enough water and it shows. Sometimes I even go days without drinking water which is not healthy at all because I need water to stay hydrated. Mainly during the summer because I get terrible migraines and nosebleeds. But you’d think that I would learn from this and drink more water, well no that was not the case. Instead of drinking water I would drink juice and rarely soda. Juice was my go-to drink, you could say that I replaced water for juice. And I know this is bad, but water just doesn’t sound appealing to me anymore. It used to be after practice, but now I will only drink water if it is the only thing to drink. All these things I know I can change and improve in my everyday life. I will start a new plan and hope that it works.
Not being able to be as active and as healthy as before really affects me in a negative way but I don’t let it get to me. I think of the positive things and think about the ways that I can improve this. Being positive about myself and health is one of the few things that will motivate me to push myself to do better. I know I will be able to achieve all my goals little by little every day. I will find more time to work on myself and be able to maintain a healthy diet. I know this won’t happen in a week, but I am prepared to see what the results are in the long run. I want to be proud of myself for being able to reach these goals and I want to be able to see my pictures as a motivation for myself. Lastly, working on myself even if it's not every day will help me so much and I am willing and ready to do this for myself

This source helped me with my paper because it gave me a description of each section depending what my score was. It tested me on physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness, which contained less categories than the one in the book. It also gave me an overall wellness result about all the categories which was very interesting to read.

Personal Prescription Reflection:
When I took the holistic health self assessment quiz online and in the book I was able to learn a few things about myself, some that I already knew and others that I didn’t know about at all. I also got some percentages that I did not expect. When I read my environmental wellness section I agreed that I should help the environment a bit more. For example, I shouldn’t waste too much water when I shower and I shouldn’t leave the faucet on while I am brushing my teeth. I’ve been working on not wasting so much water now, but sometimes when it is too cold I just let the hot water run so the restroom can look steamy and warm. But besides wasting so much water, I recycle, which benefits the environment. I have recycled for years now and not only does it benefit the environment but it also benefits us. Every time we go and trade in our recycled bottles we make money out of it, which helps us buy food or groceries for the house. Also the emotional wellness part was not very surprising. I never really speak about my feelings or none of that emotional stuff because I don’t want to feel like a burden or vulnerable. It is nice once in a while for someone to genuinely ask about how I am doing but when they ask me all the time or like 20 times a day, it just makes me feel like I am a child they have to keep looking out for, which they don’t. I have always been very independent and always helped people without asking for anything in return, but when they give me the same energy I just feel weird. I know I need to open up more about my emotional well being but it is just a bit complicated sometimes. Mostly when you know people won’t really listen or when they do they just ask a lot of questions, when all you want is for them to listen. Lastly, the part about my physical wellness is one hundred percent agreeable and true! When I was reading the score I got for this section I already knew that I needed to work on myself a lot more. Seeing it on paper and again online just made it a lot more real that I need to be more serious about taking care of myself and being more active. I really enjoyed reading things I didn’t know about myself, it helps me grow and become more healthy.
